Best cheap WordPress hosting: IN DETAIL

In this article, we’ll take a look at each web host’s support capabilities, performance scores, user ratings, individual plans, and of course the price – then we’ll see which one comes out on top. Basically, we examine a handful of different cheap WordPress hosting offers based on multiple criteria. That way, you get all of the information you need without any fluff.

When it comes to speed testing, we’ll be using Pingdom for that. It’s a handy tool that measures load times from a couple of locations around the globe. The site used for testing was a basic, clean WordPress install.

Granted, this is only for the initial pay period and, after that, you’ll need to pay $9.99 / month, but it’s still a great way to get yourself a host that you can use on a simple website project.

On that cheapest setup, you’re allowed to host one website and you also get one email account to go alongside. There’s also 100GB of bandwidth, which should be enough.

On the down side, you don’t get a free SSL certificate, which is a bummer, and there are no daily backups.

While Namecheap no longer has sub-$1 monthly prices, they’re still an incredibly affordable host that offers cheap pay monthly WordPress hosting.

They allow you to choose a US- or UK-based data center. You get up to 20GB of SSD-accelerated disk space, unlimited bandwidth, and you can run up to three sites (all on the cheapest plan).

Getting your website set up is pretty straightforward as well. As soon as you get the hosting plan paid for, Namecheap points you in the right direction in terms of new WordPress installation (which can be done via Softaculous).

Pricing 💵

  • Stellar Plus ($2.28 per month): Unmetered SSD-accelerated storage, bandwidth, and websites.
  • Stellar Business ($4.48 per month): 50 GB pure SSD disk space, along with unmetered bandwidth and unlimited websites.

What’s worth pointing out is that Namecheap’s prices above are for monthly payments, whereas many other cheap WordPress hosts will require you to pay for a year upfront to get prices that cheap.

When to consider using Namecheap

While Namecheap isn’t quite as cheap as it once was, it’s still incredibly affordable at just $1.58 per month with monthly payments, or $22.88 for a whole year. That being said, Namecheap lacks a tiny bit in the WordPress-specific features department.

When to consider using iPage

A lot of users don’t need too much flexibility when it comes to their WordPress plans, they just need something that works out of the box without too much fuss. iPage’s modest offerings make it ideal for these types of users – although heavy user loads are a concern.

I have had InMotion for quite some time, and it takes forever to load, although we have only one single page. Therefore, this article made me surprised because it gave a good/neutral comment and it has put it at 4th position. On the other hand, I believe that they do not even deserve to be among the top 10! In addition, I believe that my comment should be more in line with Liz Howell’s comment, who appeared to have dug a bit dipper in InMotion’s WP hosting.

When I’m choosing a host, which
services I haven’t tried before, I do not really like to go with a long-term
subscription. And, as I see, some of the hosts here offer these discounts only
if you opt for 60-month subscription, which I definitely wouldn’t do. There are
hosts, like BGOcloud and other, which offer services at a few times cheaper prices than
these, and they still offer fast speed, security and good performance for
websites. I’m glad that I’ve managed to
find a cheaper hosting plan with an option for month-to-month payment provided
by the host that I mentioned above.

I find these prices very different if you buy a WordPress site that is actually worth anything. These web hosting sites that you mention have different prices for WordPress hosting and just regular hosting. I don’t know if you can buy a regular site and then install WordPress but will it still run efficiently otherwise why have two different types of hosting? InMotion is approx $323 for three years to get an $8.95 mo site which includes security and backups for the site so that is good. Siteground is almost $200 bucks a year with security and backups. I have had my sites hacked before so a security suite is mandatory.

Having only recently discovered WP-CLI, and used it heavily since, I would suggest a different approach to determining whether it is available:
(1) How current is the available version?
(2) If it is old or not available, can I install the current version myself, even if it means a long path instead of the CLI command? This brings up a more fundamental question: is SSH available?
Background: this whole situation came into clear view when I tried to use WP-CLI on one of the web hosts that I use, only to discover it was Version 1.0!!!!

All prices shown reasonable only when you buy for long term. But it should be noted that there are still cheaper hosting packages that comes with ssl as free option(google requires all the websites to have ssl for better seo) and more disk space and monthly traffic and emails.
